What is turret lathe ?
TURRET LATHE :
The lathe is s development of engine lathe. It is used to manufacture many number of identical parts in a minimum time . A hexagonal turret is mounted on the Shaddle and the whole units move back and forward on the bed . This type of lathe is haver in construction and is used for larger diameter work and of it is also used for larger work piece then capstan lathe .
MAIN PARTS OF TURRET LATHE :
There ar various major parts of a turret lathe . These ar mentioned below:-
Bed
Head stock
Carriage
Turret
BED
Bed is a long casting provide with rectangular ways upon which carriage and turret are placed. It also supports the head stock. It most be solid and rigidity then other parts.
HEAD STOCK
Head stock a large parts located on the left end of the bed. It houses the mechanism which operates the spindle at various speed.
CARRIAGE
Carriage is fitted over the guide ways of the lathe bed. The front of the carriage includes the apron which contains the feed mechanism.
TURRET
It is a hexagonal tool holder mounted on the Shaddle on the bed. The turret can be rotated about the axis to being each tool in to operating position and the entire unit can be move longitudinally eighter manually ar by power to provide feed for the tool. The work piece have been previously chucked carrectly on a turret lathe a number of tool can be step up on machine then quickly be brought in to working position so that's a complete parts can be machined with out changing tool which reduce the tool holding time and maching time.
